Not sure the maker of this salt cellar.
Measurements are: 4" Long, 2" Tall & 1 1/2" Wide.
This beautiful Viking Ship Salt Cellar was made by Marius Hammer. My favorite part is the feet on it.
It measures 4" Long, 2 1/2" Tall & 1 1/2" wide. to bad the glass liner is missing.
This is another Ebay purchase. It is made out of 830 Silver. I can not find a maker's mark but pretty sure it was made by Brodrene Lohne.
It measures just over 3 Long, 2" Tall & 1" Wide.
This little Open Salt unfortunately has 2 of it's legs broken off. I think I may be able to take it to a jeweler and have it fixed. The person I got it from didn't know anything about it either. It is 3 1/2" Long, 1 3/4" Tall & 1 1/4" Wide.
This is probably my favorite of all my Viking Open Salts and one of the first ones I found, It is hallmarked with the 830s standard mark and the maker's mark of Magnus Aase recorded as working in Bergen between 1876-1953. Has a beautiful Colbalt Blue glass liner. It measures over 3 1/2" Long, 2 1/2" Tall & 2 1/2" Wide.
This looks to be a Master Salt Cellar. I believe it was made by Magnus Aase. Not sure if it came with a glass liner. It bears the Norwegian flag on the left hand side with is engraved: TIL STELLA ERINDR FRA LIEF 1944. It translates to: To Stella, Remember, from Leif 1944. My guess is someone bought this as a gift and had it inscribed. I am not quite sure it is Sterling Silver, or just silver plated. It measures about 6" Long, 3 1/2" Tall & 2" Wide.
This beautiful Cellar was made by Jacob Tostrup of Norway. It is .925 Sterling and at one time might have been coated with White Enamel on the inside, or had a glass liner.
It measures 7" Long from Flag tip-tip, 3 1/2" Tall & 2" Wide.
Solid 830 fine Silver Norwegian Trencher Salt Hallmarked David Andersen c1876 - c1901 in a Dragon Frame.
A Viking Salt H&J 4261 salt rests on an oval key ring nestled between two dragon heads holding rings in their mouths attached to the two handles of the salt all on a weighted base covered in a vintage fabric. Looks to be a dedication on the side that says: Bergen 1898.
Looks like it might have been a presentation piece for this:

It appears that the frame is also made of silver but I haven't found any marks, it makes an outstanding addition to my collection! It is in beautiful condition with no dents or dings and only some minor scratches.
It is 6 1/2” Long, 3 3/4 Tall & 3 1/2 Wide at the base.
This is a beautiful Salt Cellar by the Jennings Brothers. It is cast metal finished in Silver Plating. The bottom is false and unfortunately the felt & sticker are in very poor shape.
It measures a little over 5" Long, 2 1/2" Tall & and just under 2" Wide.
This is a salts that I picked up off of Ebay. Unfortunately it did not come with a spoon or a liner. I believe is Silver Plated circa 1900. All I have learned about it is that "ENERET" means "Patent or "Monopoly" It is just over 4 1/4" Long, 2 3/4" Tall & just under 2 1/2" Wide.
This is another Ebay purchase. It was made by Lohne Brodrene of Norway out of 830 Silver. The Silver Wire holding the sail on was damaged and needs to be fixed. Something I will do with Silver Wire and post a picture when it is finished.
It measures 4 1/4" Long, Just under 5 1/2" Tall & 2 3/4" Wide at the sail.
This is an unusual figural salt in the shape of a boat with ram's heads on both ends. The outside rim has a heavy “line and dot” boarder reminiscent of ancient Greece. The boat sits on a pedestal. The initial “P” is engraved on one side. The piece is marked on the bottom with the Meriden B. Company (Picture of a Scale) and the number 24 indicating that this is a Very Early Meriden B. Company piece. The company began in 1852 and ended production under that name in 1878 when it became part of the newly formed International Silver Company. The number 24 places this at the earlier part of their existence, 1852 - 1860.
This piece is in very good shape. There are no dents or dings and the Ram’s horns are intact. There are some scratches on the inside of the bowl. The silver plate is worn. The foot and top rim show some wear commensurate with its age. It may not be a Viking Ship exactly, but I love it!
It is 4.00" Long, 2 1/4 Tall & 2.00" Tall.
This Viking Salt comes with a full sail & waving flag. It has a hallmark "830S" and was made by Magnus Aase. I am not sure is the sail was part of the original piece, but is also silver and was done professionally.
HAASE Silver Plate Viking Ship with Dragon Head Bow & Stern, Shield Trimmed Sides, and Sea Swell Weighted Wood Base. Base is engraved, "Remote Sensing Fagernes 12 Nov 1974, designed to keep the ship from tipping. Measures 14" from dragon snout to dragon snout.
This is another Ebay purchase. It is made out of 830 Silver. I can not find a maker's mark but pretty sure it was made by Brodrene Lohne.
It measures just over 3 Long, 2" Tall & 1" Wide.
In my few years of collecting these, this is the ONLY one I have seen. I have not come across anything identical. It is very ornate and I believe it to be solid silver, not plated. I can not find any markings on it other than 830 on the inside bottom along with a beautiful scene of a sunrise over cliffs & water. It did come with a glass insert, which I believe is the original one.
It measures 3.5" Long, 2" Tall and just over 1.5" Wide.
This is another beautiful Salt Cellar made by Jacob Tostrup of Norway. It is .925 Sterling and is coated with White Enamel on the inside. This was a great find as I don't see to many of these come up for sale. It is in near prefect condition! It is smaller than the other Jacob Tostrup cellar I have and measures 3.75 Long, just under 2.0" Tall & just under 1.2" Wide.
Hi, Denise! I have the one with the Norwegian flag, except it doesn't have a Norwegian flag on it, lol! However, it does have the maker's mark for the Brodrene Lohne, plus a silver grade stamp of 830s.
ReplyDeleteOne place to look is on the sides of the middle legs. It's small and easy to miss.
Happy sailing!
Thanks Lea, I will take another look. Any chance you could take a picture where the marking is on yours?
DeleteHey I am selling off my collection. Thought I would see if you were interested in any of it?
